Oooooooooooooooooooh huzoooooooooooooorrr…

1: A friend of mine once sang “Tu hi re” with a very strong Mallu accent. We all laughed at him. Then another one sang “Brown gearl in the ring” and we all laughed with him.

2: At Chhota, amidst a lot of smoke and lemon tea, at 4 in the morning, Pinky dada sings my favourite “Main koi aise geet…” from Yes Boss. Sorry Poo, but no amount of vodka shots can lift my spirits like this song can. Actually when he sings it, I even enjoy a Bengali song.

3: D. Jo and M4rrrr practicing for their duet, to be performed on college day. Anxiety and self criticism scaled new heights that day, but no two people can compliment each other like they did… with their singing of course.

4: Has anyone paid you to listen to a song he liked? Ha! I was made to listen to “Mujhe ja na kaho meri jaan” on repeat mode, and I made a cool couple of hundred bucks. Come to think of it, I do like the song now.

5: Baddy court, Chandni. A corner room on the ground floor played “Nachh Baliye” loudly when I played Badminton. Of course with a song like that, I’m bound to continue playing for hours. Aaha, there’s the reason I broke my spine. It’s all your fault.

6: A very boring session on Brand… Marketing… some management, whatever, I just know it was all pfaff. What kept me up? Yahoo messenger and online antakshari with CC boy. I would like to believe I won.

7: To let people know that I am “Zinda hooooooon”, my own playlist (running on repeat mode sometimes) with my favourite tracks from RDB, Sankalp tunes, Kisna, Lakshya, my Punjabi neighbour playing loud Punjabi pop music, another neighbour playing heavy metal, one random junior playing “kaali nagin ke jaise zulfein teri kaali kaali” at 7 in the morning.

8: The three D’s against A, mocking her rendition of John Denver’s “Leaving on a jet plane”. Sniff sob, I soon will (hint: get senti now).

9: Doing the Thapaankoothu to Gemini’s “Oh Podu”, or Saami’s “Thirunelveli Halwa thaan”, or Superstar’s “Rakamaa” or even “Padayappa”.

Those were the good old days. Really.

Well, there’s no dearth of music now either. Only problem is that all I hear around me is either “Diya diiiiiiil, dil diyaaaaaaa” or “Naam teraaa tera”… you get the idea. Now seriously, bad enough that there’s one real live person literally crying through his nose, there are enough fake ones too on all the music channels and laughter challenges of the world. I hate anything that reminds me of him – caps, noses… To think he sang “Mere ishq ki, deewaangi, Dil Ding Dong Ding bole” and ruined “Ding Dong Ding” from Tezaab. Uff God bless my ears.

I will willingly subject myself to someone’s “Koel jaisi awaaaz”. It’s close to Chinese torture, but thankfully, like I said, CLOSE.

My "Country Roads.." rendition didn't make it to the Top 10???!!! And I've almost got all the notes right too!!

(psst.. there are only nine even now, you can add one more *wink*)

Also, give up the hope of ever hearing "Roobaroo.. Roshanieeeeeee.. EE!!" ever again.

I shall sing, but only for myself and my bathroom. Pah.

Sighhhhhhh....

There were also the Punjabi remix party songs - that always remind me of the Palaash dance floor. And DJ's Frank Sinatra & Cliff Richards that made rainy days so romantic.
